Most of us have had a bit of extra time on our hands the past couple of months, and with current
lock down conditions in place it looks the the trend to free time will continue. I decided that with this
bonus time now available to me I would work on my photographic skills. All that was required to fill my
schedule was one Google search of photo tips and my mail box was inundated with AMAZING OFFERS,
PHOTO WORKSHOPS discounted 95% and countless other offers.
After spending a few minutes on the buffet of information I selected an offer for a free Master
Class and spent an hour glued to my computer screen watching the pro explain what he does to get great
photos. The class was truly worth while and the host did offer some great tips, and then he got to the meat
of the matter. He said to be a really good photographer you had to choose a project, a big project and
work on it every day for maybe a year or more. Working on it meant shooting pictures and then
evaluating them, and going back and doing it again, only this time getting better results because you were
correcting the mistakes you found in your first offer.
Wow, what an enlightenment, working at the skill would improve it.
I thought it good lesson and wondered if I could learn more, so I found another pro that was
offering a Masterclass in about the same price range – Free and sat through it. Good solid information and
them the kicker, the how to be a great photographer part and his advice was to choose a subject and work
on it, study your photos go back and improve on your shots, he recommended taking some pictures
everyday.
I stress that these were two unrelated perhaps even competing websites. The message was the
same, take pictures, evaluate your work and do it better, then repeat.
Is this the Secret? This sounds like the secret is working hard at something and not giving up,
Really?
Remember a few years ago when the book The Secret, and the resultant movie and a few other
things were the rage? I thought that Secret was about attitude and sending out messages to the universe
and it would return many fold, and now these guys are telling me the secret is just work hard and stay
with it. Heck my Dad could of told me that, in fact he probably did.
Oh well, now I know the secret and I have the time to do the work.
