We are able to deal with the Covid pandemic on a day to day basis but what really frightens me
is the long term effects, and we have no idea of what this thing will mean long term. It is terrifying, and as
me make the change to fall the impact has really started to sink in at my house.
This thing is having some very dramatic impacts that will be with us for years.
I don’t mean bankrupting out country with bail out programs.
I don’t mean the cost of health care.
I also don’t mean the impact it will have on individuals mentally. I am talking about the effects
this thing is having on my closet. I have no t-shirts from this summer’s events or baseball trips. That may
seem like a small thing to some of you but think about this long term.
Normally when a t-shirt comes home with me, it gets one summer of dress up wear, you know,
going out to barbecue or other special events. Then the next summer it is relegated to the everyday shelf
and the colors begin to fade because it gets washed about once a week or so, and finally in the third year
it is relegated to ‘dirty’ yard work. Those times when there might be oil or wire involved, some how wire
attacks my t-shirts and leaves l-shaped holes when ever it comes near.
It started early. We were in Mexico and I did get a few t-shirts but nothing extra special, the
typical 3 iguanas and a bar or two but I was saving my t-shirt budget for the cruise that was planned to
wrap up our winter. That was canceled and the purchases planned for those ports of call were never made.
I had also put away a sizable amount of cash for the shirts that would result from my baseball trip
that never happened. This was a trip to a low level A league that has teams with a Mexican persona as
well as a Food logo. I had planned to bolster my closet with shirts celebrating my trip the the Wisconsin
Brats ball yard, but alas it was not to be.
Now I am without shirts for the dress up category and that will show up in resultant years, the
flow will just not be the same.
I am not even going to go into the lack of hat but I am sure you can draw the parallels. This thing
is serious.
I have one dress up shirt that I have been saving and it is becoming more special, and that is from
the World Plowing Championship in Minnesota last summer.
