The working title for this project was ‘the cookie book’ and while it has nothing to do with
baking Genella Macintyre does provide some very good recipes -recipes for dealing with difficult people.
Her first book was about stress and how to minimize it in your everyday life, and this offering
continues in the same line but shows much more of her personal character and at times is firmly tongue
planted in cheek to deliver the advice.
We all have had to deal with difficult characters at one time or another, sometimes it is the
person in the mirror and Genella delivers some sound advice on how to defuse the situation. She goes
through more than a dozen character types and names them all after some type of cookie, there is no
doubt about identifying the character and type of cookie.
Remember Chocolate Puffs from when your were a kid? That crunch when you bit into it and the
gooey marshmallow, with just a drop of strawberry jam on the wafer at the bottom? Yes, she even goes
through that type of personality and delivers a plan on how to deal with them.
I have worked Genella on several of her books and she has one that is nearing completion now
but the cookie book may become her signature work as she takes her training and consulting business in
that direction.
She also authored a children’s book about a cute little dog name Tucker that is her constant
companion. I can tell you that one was well received by the youngest reader in our family, my grandson
had a copy of that one very early in life. You are never to young to have books.
There is a section on Fortune Cookies and she says that she figured out Santa Clause long before
she realized that Fortune Cookies were not telling fortunes at all. Genella says that while the message is
pleasant in the restaurant oft times it is negative in the work place.
It does provide good usable advice but the book is worth the entertainment value for the
illustrations and the entertainment value of figure who in your life is a Ginger Snap and who is a Hermit
Cookie.
